Starigrad is located in the extreme northwest part of Zadar County and geographically belongs to northern Dalmatia. The settlements of the municipality stretch along about twenty kilometers of the Adriatic Sea coast, overlooked by the Velebit mountain, where the Paklenica National Park is located on its southern slopes. This entire area is in a protected natural environment because Velebit, along with its coast, has had the status of a nature park since 1981.
